WHAT IT IS

What EMDR Is and How It Works

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a structured therapy approach developed specifically for trauma. It works by targeting the way traumatic memories are stored, using bilateral stimulation to help the brain reprocess them in a way that reduces their emotional charge.

The result is not that the memory disappears. It is that it loses the ability to activate the same level of distress. Events that were once vivid triggers become more like regular memories that can be recalled without the nervous system treating them as immediate threats.
